Councillors Fanning and Oliver host Transit Referendum Forum
INDIANAPOLIS – Councillors Colleen Fanning (District 2) and William Oliver (District 9) will
host a Transit Referendum Forum on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 to help constituents understand the facts and implications of the November Transit Referendum. The forum, which will be held at the Washington Township Government Center, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 th , will be an educational forum seeking to inform voters and give the public an opportunity to raise questions and obtain answers. This event is not intended to advocate any particular position.
Forum panelists include Sean Northup; Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO); Melody
Park, Department of Public Works (DPW); Bryan Luellen, IndyGo; and Mark Fisher, Indy Chamber. The panelists will give brief factual presentations, followed by audience questions. The event will be publicly televised and available the following day for review “Anytime we face a sweeping tax increase, we owe it to ourselves to understand the implications, especially the potential return on investment for our voters and our community at large. This is an opportunity for voters to get information from the experts who are involved in every aspect of this potential project,” stated Councillor Fanning
“The Council consented to give Marion County voters a say regarding a potential raise in their
income taxes to pay for a major public transportation investment and expanded bus service. It is important, when asking citizens to make such a decision, that we make sure they are fully aware of all the factors surrounding this issue, “ added Councillor Oliver. The forum will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, and all those interested in this important issue are encouraged to attend.
